Abstract

Bilang pagsasalikop ng kapanahong kasaysayang pampanitikan at ekokritisismo, iginigiit ng pag-aaral na ito na namukadkad ang panitikang pambatang Pilipino na pumapaksa sa disaster ng mga bagyo noong panahon ng pamamahala ni Pangulong Benigno S. Aquino III (2010-2016). Maihahanay sa mga salik ng pamumukadkad na ito ang malaganap na kalunos-lunos na karanasan sa pananalasa ng mga bagyo tulad ng super typhoon Yolanda, ang aksiyon (at kawalang-aksiyon) ng gobyerno, at personal na obserbasyon ng mga manlilikha ng akdang pambata. Gamit ang berbal-biswal na panunuri sa mga piling picturebook, tatalastasin ang mga dalumat ng vulnerabilidad at resilience na taglay ng mga akda, na magpapasibol ng mga pagmumuni sa gampanin ng mga akdang pambata sa kaalaman at kamalayang pandisaster.

Abstract (english)

As an intersection of contemporary literary history and ecocriticism, this study argues that Filipino children’s literature focusing on storm disasters flourished under the term of President Benigno S. Aquino III (2010-2016). Essential to this flourishing are the extensive tragic experiences in destructive storms like the super typhoon Yolanda, the action (and inaction) of government, and personal observations of creators of children’s literature. Through a verbal-visual critique on selected picturebooks, concepts of vulnerability and resilience that reside in the works will be articulated, as to germinate a reflection on the role of children’s literature in the knowledge and consciousness of disaster.
