Abstract
Sinusuri ng papel ang dalawang gawa ng alagad ng sining at eskultor na si Riel Hilario: ang It was a paradisical state: the body was allowed to be a body at Our Lady of Revenge. Tinatangka nitong palitawin ang mga tema ng relihiyon at kolonyalismong Español sa mga gawa sa paggamit ng pinag-uugatang tradisyon ng alagad ng sining sa paglililok ng santo at iba pang tradisyonal na sining bilang batayan ng pagsusuri at interpretasyon. Nakakuwadro ang mga gawa sa loob ng konteksto ng impluwensiya ng katutubong sining at ng personal na karanasan ng alagad ng sining, nang pinagtutuonan ang mga elementong naisangkot mula sa iba’t ibang kultura sa loob man o sa labas ng bansa.
This paper aims to analyze two works by artist and sculptor Riel Hilario; being It was a paradisical state: the body was allowed to be a body and Our Lady of Revenge. It attempts to highlight the themes of religion and Spanish colonization in the work while using the artist’s background of traditional santo-carving and traditional arts as a base for analysis and interpretation. The works are framed in the context of their being influenced by folk art and the artist’s personal experience, channeling elements that have been incorporated from various cultures from within the nation and abroad.
