Ang Paglalahad ng Ilang Paniniwala at Kultura sa Kapuluan ng Pilipinas sa Pamamagitan ng mga Piling Object o Objet d’Art

Abstract

Susuriin sa papel na ito ang mga piling materyal na kultura sa Pilipinas o mga piling Philippine Object na babakas o tutukoy sa mga paniniwala at kultura ng kapuluan. Ilalahad ang iba’t ibang objet d’art mula sa iba’t ibang tradisyon tulad ng paghahabi, pagpapanday, pagpapalayok, at paglililok. Ang mga napiling objet d’art tulad ng sinaunang mga sandata at habi ay parehong mula sa loob at labas ng bansa, ngunit marami ang mula sa America at Europa na nakuha o nabili noong panahon ng mga pananakop. Kabilang sa susuriin ay ang Agusan image o gintong pigura (Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago, Estados Unidos), kinabbigat (Linden Museum Stuttgart, Alemanya), barong (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Estados Unidos), Calatagan ritual pot (National Museum of Anthropology, Maynila, Pilipinas), tunkulu (Leiden Museum of Ethnology, Netherlands), owës (Vienna Museum of Ethnology, Austria), at busto ni San Francisco Javier (British Museum, United Kingdom). Magiging lunsaran din ang mga objet d’art sa pagsasalaysay ng mga kabuluhan nito mula sa espiritwal, historiko, pansining, panlipunan, pati na rin sa ekonomiko at siyentipiko na mga perspektiba.

Unveiling Certain Beliefs and Cultures in the Philippine Archipelago Through Chosen Object or Objet d’Art

Abstract (English)

This paper shall examine chosen material cultures in the Philippines or chosen Philippine Objects that shall trace or identify beliefs and cultures in the archipelago. Different objet d’art will be presented from various traditions such as weaving, metal-smithing, pottery, and sculpture or carving. The chosen objet d’art like early weapons or weaved fabrics all both originate from within and outside the country, with a majority coming from America and Europe having been collected or bought during periods of colonization. Included in the objects analyzed are the Agusan image or golden statuette (Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago, United States), kinabbigat (Linden Museum Stuttgart, Germany), barong (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, United States), Calatagan ritual pot (National Museum of Anthropology, Manila, Philippines), tunkulu (Leiden Museum of Ethnology, Netherlands), owës (Vienna Museum of Ethnology, Austria), and bust of Saint Francis Xavier (British Museum, United Kingdom). Such objet d’art will also be used as a springboard in accounting for their relevance from spiritual, historical, artistic, social, even economic, and scientific perspectives.
