Kritika Kultura, the international refereed journal of language, literary, and cultural studies of the Department of English, Ateneo de Manila University, is inviting early career researchers to submit manuscripts for a three-day criticism workshop on the theme of local history and memory in the Philippines. The criticism workshop, which will be held in Ateneo de Manila University from May 31 to June 2, 2017, is organized in collaboration with the Ateneo Institute for Literary Arts and Practices (AILAP).
The KK criticism workshop will be part of the 15th Ateneo National Writers Workshop (ANWW); the partnership between KK and AILAP aims to foster dialogue and collaboration between practitioners of creative and critical writing. The workshop will train and prepare three early career researchers for the rigor and demand of scholarly writing and practice—principles which inform theoretical and methodological orientations, literary and cultural studies approaches which address contemporary realities—through critiques and assessment of their work. Furthermore, ANWW 15 encourages applications from those affiliated with community or university organizations (literary or non-literary), as part of the workshop’s theme this year is literature as a way of engaging sectors and communities.
The workshop panel will be composed of top scholars and critics from Philippine universities. Throughout the three days of the workshop, fellows are expected to deliver short presentations based on their research, and participate in the workshop with co-fellows and panelists. Revised versions of the manuscripts may be considered for publication in Kritika Kultura.
Applicants should submit papers on Philippine literary and cultural studies, particularly in relation to the region, nation, and the globe; applicants are encouraged to explore concerns connected to Filipino communities—within and outside the Philippines—especially as they relate to issues surrounding the formation of local history and memory.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Interested participants are requested to submit the following on or before Mar. 15, 2017:
1. A paper 7,000 to 8,000 words in length, inclusive of abstract (approx. 200 to 250 words), Works Cited page, and endnotes. Paper should not have been previously published, nor should it be under consideration for publication in any journal. Only single-authored submissions are allowed. Submissions in Filipino are encouraged, provided they are accompanied by an abstract in English. The paper should be in a Microsoft Word file (.doc), double spaced, font size 12 (preferably Times New Roman). Format should follow the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers.
2. A bionote (100 to 150 words); use a separate Microsoft Word file (.doc).
