Events: Kritika Kultura Lecture Series presents Dominique Marechal

February 09, 2018

Kritika Kultura, the international refereed journal of language, literary, and cultural studies of the Department of English, Ateneo de Manila University—in cooperation with Areté, Ateneo Art Gallery, and the Fine Arts Department—will host a lecture by Dominique Marechal titled “A Curator at Work.” The lecture is on Feb. 13, 2018, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., at the Ateneo Art Gallery, Ben Chan ArtSuite, 2/F, Arts Wing, Areté (Ateneo de Manila University). The lecture is open to the public.

About the lecture

A museum curator is by definition always multitasking. He or she has to collect, to research, to exhibit, to publish, to supervise restorations, to educate, to communicate, to travel as a courier, to teach, to design exhibition installations, to advise security, to answer to enquiries, to manage and to organize—all that with a marvelous flexibility. This lecture deals with the experience and fieldwork of a curator in a major European museum.

About the lecturer

A former curator at the Groeningemuseum in Bruges, Belgium, Dominique Marechal has been curator of 19th century paintings at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium since 1999 and of the Antoine Wiertzmuseum in Brussels since 2015. A specialist in Neoclassicism, he publishes on Belgian 19th century painting and on art in and from Bruges.
