The Consortium for Critical Island Studies invites interested faculty, professionals, students, and independent researchers to its inaugural conference.

Critical Island Studies: The Islandic, Archipelagic, and Oceanic

The conference explores established and emerging issues, theories, methodologies, and practices in critical island studies. Focusing on concepts of the islandic, archipelagic, and oceanic, the conference accounts for the field's interdisciplinary historical formation, while examining its manifold scholarly and creative practices and possibilities within and across Asia. The conference will be of interest to researchers and practitioners in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences; topics include, but are not limited to, islandscapes, seascapes, and littorals; borders and contact zones; international, national, imperial, regional, cultural and language formations; and bio- and cultural diversity.

The international conference will be held at the Escaler Hall Auditorium of Ateneo de Manila University, Loyola Heights, Quezon City on November 28 and 29, 2019, with a welcome reception and opening plenary at the University of Santo Tomas, España Boulevard, Manila on November 27, 2019.
