In its 20th issue (Feb. 2013), the journal Kritika Kultura addresses in its Forum Kritika section an apparent dearth in current scholarship and publication on Philippine Literature in Spanish.
Forum Kritika has a feature on Philippine Literature in Spanish: this includes five articles by important scholars from universities here and abroad; the articles represent new and exciting research and criticism in the field today. Forum Kritika is guest-edited by esteemed Prof. Adam Lifshey of Georgetown University, author of The Magellan Fallacy: Globalization and the Emergence of Asian and African Literature in Spanish (U of Michigan P, 2012).
As indicated in Prof. Lifshey’s introduction, Forum Kritika on Philippine Literature in Spanish aims to offer “a critical mass of studies that demonstrate that Filipino literature in Spanish beyond Rizal deserves further study and a readership rather larger than its present one.” Moreover, Forum Kritika proposes that “Filipino literature in Spanish may be among the most significant Asian traditions in any Western language.”
The launch will be held on Mar. 5, 2013, 2:30 to 4 pm, at Faber Hall Function Room, Ateneo de Manila University. Among the guests of honor are Ambassador of Spain to the Philippines Jorge Domecq, and Carlos Palomo, Director of the Instituto Cervantes. The program promises to be both exciting and enlightening.
