Publication Announcement: KK 35

The editors of Kritika Kultura—the international peer-reviewed journal of literary, language, literary, cultural studies based in the Department of English, Ateneo de Manila (Philippines)—are pleased to announce the publication of issue no. 35 (Aug. 2020).

KK 35 features essays by Mark Joseph T. Calano on the devotion to the Black Nazarene; Raymundo R. Pavo on the conceived-planned space of Roxas Night Market in Davao City; Sri Mulyani on the concept of family in fiction by Meridel Le Sueur and Suchen Christine Lim; Wening Udasmoro on discourses of Islam in Michel Houllebecq’s Soumission; and Mauricio D. Aguilera Linde on representations of Filipino migrant workers in William Saroyan’s fiction.

Part I of the Forum Kritika on Literary Liquidities, guest edited by Maria Luisa F. Torres Reyes, highlights the research of Joyce L. Arriola on the relationship between literature and cinema in Manuel Puig’s Betrayed by Rita Hayworth; Hope Sabanpan-Yu on the concept of diaspora in works by Peter Bacho and Elaine Castillo; and Paulus Sarwoto on the categories of communist, Chinese, and Jews in the fiction of Umar Kayam. 

The New Scholars Forum features Maria Rocini E. Tenasas’s essay on the Radio Waray Siday, while Oscar Tantoco Serquiña, Jr.’s analysis of the motifs of suffering, performance, and stardom in Ricardo Lee’s DH: Domestic Helper is the entry in the Monograph Section on diaspora, transnationalism, and identity.

The Literary Section features authors whose works explore new possibilities in literary form and approach. The section highlights the works of Arbeen R. Acuña, Bernard Capinpin, Alfonso Manalastas, Lakan Daza Umali, and Vyxz Vasquez.

Kritika Kultura is acknowledged by a host of Asian and Asian American Studies libraries and scholarly networks, and indexed in the MLA International Bibliography, Arts and Humanities Citation Index (Clarivate), Scopus, EBSCO, the Directory of Open Access Journals, and the International Consortium of Critical Theory Programs (ICCTP).
