Ang Siete Palabras ng Aglipay Tipas

Abstract

Mayaman man ang kasaysayan ng pagkakatatag ng Simbahang Aglipay sa Pilipinas na naguugat sa pagtalikod nito sa Simbahang Romano Katoliko, kadalasan, ang mga diskurso ay hindi na lumalampas pa sa larangan na ito. Bilang miyembro ng Simbahang Aglipay, saksi ako sa taglay na yaman ng mga tradisyon at gawain ng nasabing simbahan, lalo na sa Aglipay ng bayang Tipas ng lungsod ng Taguig na aking kinalakihan. Isa na sa mga tradisyong ito ang Huling Pitong Wika tuwing Biyernes Santo ng Mahal na Araw, o mas kilala sa komunidad bilang Siete Palabras. Mula sa altar na entablado, hanggang sa mga kulog at kidlat, patungo sa mga ginagayakan na Santo at gumagalaw na imahen ni Hesus na tinatawag ding Amba, hindi maikakaila na ang mga pagtatanghal na ito ay hindi lamang isang Banal na Gawain kung hindi isang espektakulo na rin ng pandama. Ang papel na ito ay bahagi ng isang malawak na pag-aaral tungkol sa mga paraan ng ritwalistiko at teatrikal na pagtatanghal ng Aglipay, Tipas, ng Siete Palabras bilang mga akto ng pagpapamana ng pagtatanghal. Ang sipi na ito ay nakatuon sa dokumentasyon ng mga paghahanda patungo sa pagtatanghal ng Siete Palabras tuwing Biyernes Santo. Bilang miyembro ng komunidad ng Aglipay, Tipas, sinikap ko sa dokumentasyon na maitala ang mga proseso ng pagkabuo ng Siete Palabras sa pamamagitan ng pakikipanayam sa mga kapwa Aglipayano sa Tipas, at sa pamamagitan ng pagbabalik-tanaw sa mga sariling karanasan sa panonood at pakikibahagi.

The Siete Palabras of Aglipay Tipas

Abstract (English)

While the Aglipay Church has had a rich history rooted in resistance to the Roman Catholic Church, current discussions rarely surpass this historical realm. As a member of the Aglipay Church, I bear witness to the richness that every tradition, ritual, and performance holds especially in the Aglipay community of Tipas in the city of Taguig, where I was raised. One of these traditions is the performance of The Seven Last Words, more commonly known in the community as Siete Palabras, every Good Friday of the Holy Week. From the altar as the stage, to the lightning and thunder, and even to the embellished Saints and moving figure of Jesus known to the community as Amba, it is undeniable that Siete Palabras is not just a Religious Activity, but is also a spectacle for the senses. This paper is part of a larger study focused on the ritualistic and theatrical aspects of Siete Palabras as acts of passing on the heritage of the performance itself. This excerpt focuses on the documentation of the processes that Aglipay, Tipas, undertakes in the preparation and performance of Siete Palabras. As a member of the Aglipay, Tipas community, I strived to document the processes that shaped such performances through interviews with fellow Aglipayanos in Tipas, as well as through looking back at personal experiences as an active participant in the Siete Palabras.
